Roger McIver
Quartermaster/Adjutant - Army

Roger was born into a farming family in southern Indiana. His family's frequent moves to take advantage of better opportunities caused him to attend nine different schools in four states in the twelve years before completing high school in Atlanta, Georgia.

Roger enrolled at Georgia State College where he: became active in their ROTC program; was accepted as a pledge into the National Society of Pershing Rifles (a national military honor society); helped organize the Chi Delta colony of Chi Phi Fraternity; and was elected Student Council freshman class secretary.  Just months later, Roger was called to active duty.

After training at Ft. Benning and Ft Lee, Roger was deployed to Vietnam where he served with the 1st Aviation Brigade, 765th Transportation Battalion, 56th Transportation Co. and was a member of the Tech Supply Team providing digital services supporting fixed and rotary wing aircraft maintenance and repairs. His next assignment was to Ft. Stewart, Georgia where he served out his enlistment as a Supply Sergeant for HQs and HQs Company of the "Above the Best"  267th Aviation Training Battalion.

Once back in Atlanta, Roger found employment, used the GI bill to buy a home, and resumed college. GSC had become GSU from which he would receive a BBA after five years of night school. He retired from Georgia Power Company as a construction projects contracts coordinator.  Roger used his knowledge of construction learned from his grandfather, father, and  Georgia Power Company to start a successful custom residential construction company. With his wife as decorator and bookkeeper, together they built homes from $120K to $2M all over Cherokee, Fulton, Dekalb, and Forsyth counties. He earned a CABO Residential Inspector's license and was one of the first builders in the State of Georgia to receive both Residential Builder and Qualifying Agent licenses.

For Roger, retirement only means unpaid. In addition to the VFW, he is an advisor to his community's HOA Board of Directors and is active in City of Holly Springs development concerns and Cherokee County planning and zoning issues.

Roger is currently serving as Quartermaster and Adjutant of VFW Post 5262. As QM he has earned All-American and/or All-State honors multiple times. In the past he has served as both Jr. and Sr. Vice Commander. Roger and his wife currently live in Holly Springs, Georgia. He has two adult sons and a recently married granddaughter.
